Simple Hacks for Organizing your Home Office

When it comes to your home office- organization is your friend. It’s easy to find our space so crammed with stuff that you hardly have room to think.

Feeling at peace in your space is important to maximize productivity and encourage creativity.

Follow these simple tips and you’re sure to create an a space that you’ll actually want to work in!

Organize up.

When space is limited, think vertically. Use shelves, bookshelves, magazine racks and cork boards. There’s probably a ton of untapped vertical space free for organizing.

Clear off your work surface.

Be honest with yourself- how often do you really use your 15 multi colored highlighters and never-ending stacks of post its? The reality is that you don’t need all of your office supplies scattered around the table top in front of you. Be selective and only keep the bare minimum at arms reach to avoid any distractions.

Embrace a minimalistic spirit.

Keeping with the previous point, let’s clean up the rest of your space. Only keep those things around that you use multiple times a day. The rest can get stored, or even better donated or thrown away. The less clutter in the room, the more space there is for creativity.

Designate a charging station.

These days we all have too many electronics on call to count. A discreetly placed power strip or charging station can help keep all your cords organized, accessible and tangle-free.

Set up for success.

It’s time to rethink your layout. Every item that you regularly use should have a home. Remember to always put things back in their place after you use them. This way you’re not constantly wasting time looking for things. It’s important to have a functional office space and a system that flows to maximize productivity.

Invest in organization.

When it comes to getting organized, and likely saving your sanity, it’s okay to splurge a little. Head over to your local office supply store and check out all the filing cabinets, stacking trays, storage boxes and other containers they have available. Don’t go too crazy (remember we’re aiming for minimalism here), but allow yourself to pick a few pieces. These systems were made for office organizing- and are there to make your life easier.
