8 Practical Vinegar Home Hacks

Vinegar has so many uses in the home, beyond just cooking in the kitchen.

This inexpensive, biodegradable liquid can be used as a green alternative to many household cleaners and other home products that are pricey and contain harsh chemicals.

Harness the power of this true multitasker with the following tips and make your life a bit easier.

1. Disinfectant

Undiluted vinegar is an acetic acid that works as a safer bleach alternative and disinfectant. Cleaning with vinegar helps to kill household pathogens like mold, viruses like the flu and harmful bacteria like salmonella.

2. Wrinkle Eraser

A quick mixture of vinegar, water and essential oils in a spray bottle easily removes stubborn wrinkles. Spray, hang, let dry and watch wrinkles disappear before your eyes.

3. Air Freshener & Odor Eliminator

White vinegar acts as a strong natural deodorizer. Simply put some in a spray bottle and mist around the room. While the smell may be strong at first, as the vinegar begins to evaporate, it will take other unpleasant odors with it.

4. Streak-free Shiner

A quick mix of vinegar, water and lemon oil in a spray bottle will give you the perfect smudge free glass cleaner for mirrors and windows.

5. Multipurpose Cleaner

Vinegar is great for cleaning kitchen and bathroom surfaces. Wipe down countertops with vinegar and water to remove grease and grim or scrub shower tiles to remove built up soap scum.

6. Drain Declogger & Deodorizer

If you have a clogged drain, pour down ½ a cup of baking soda followed by a cup of vinegar to clear the blockage. Once fizzing stops flush down the mixture with warm water.

7. Fabric Softener

Throw ½ a cup of vinegar and ½ a cup of baking soda in with your rinse cycle to leave your clothes feeling extra soft.

8. Stain Remover

Vinegar mixtures help get rid of even the toughest of stains. Grass, tomato, coffee, and even ink stains stand no chance against vinegar’s stain fighting power.
